B.A HISTORY

Objectives

The B.A programme in History has been designed in accordance with the national Education policy and as per the guideline given by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education that emphasize on introduction of innovative and socially relevant courses at the graduate level. The syllabus is restructured to suit the needs of the time and to enhance the employability of the students without compromising the intrinsic value of studying the past .

Eligibility for Admission

Candidates who have passed +2 Examination conducted by the board of Higher Secondary Education, (Academic / Vocational) conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu or any other state or its equivalent qualification.

Duration of the course

The duration of the course shall be three academic years comprising six semesters with two semesters in each academic year.

B.A ENGLISH

Vision

We envision students of English literature who could use their knowledge, skills and exposure for their career advancement for an effective and ethical interaction in their society and also for tolerant attitude towards contradictions, differences and complexity

Mission

The department strives to create an academic and literary ambience which fosters understanding and aesthetic appreciation of English literature, and also to impart life skills for empowerment

Objectives

The syllabi for B.A English Literature degree course under semester have been designed on the basis of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) which would focus on job oriented programmes and value added education besides the aesthetic thrust.

  1. To enable students to gain proficiency in the use of English Language.
  2. To expose them to the classics in English Literature
  3. To enable them to gain a knowledge of the social and literary history of England , the literary genres, the literary movements ,and the various schools of thought in literary criticism.
  4. To develop their vocabulary and English language skills with an objective of equipping the students to perform well in competitive examinations, like the Public Service Commission Examinations, TOFEL & GRE.
  5. To equip them to face the challenges in mass media.
  6. To help them to develop their career oriented skills through the Elective Courses.
  7. Skill based elective courses and non –major electives will assist the students to have a good deal of freedom and they will also facilitate the students to be employable immediately after completion of the Degreeprogramme.

Candidates who have passed +2 Examination conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, with English as a subject components OR any other examination accepted by the syndicate of the Madurai Kamaraj University as equivalent are eligible to join this course.

B.A ECONOMICS

  • To assist the graduates in finding employment opportunities in business industry.

B.COM

BSW

M.A ENGLISH

REGULATIONS AND SYLLABUS FOR MASTER OF ENGLISH – (MA)
CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM
(From the academic year 2015 – 2016)

NAME OF THE COURSE:

MannarThirumalaiNaicker College under choice based credit system (CBCS) is offering a two year MA (Master of English ) Degree Course (Semester Pattern) in English with provision for a research project in the second year. The term credit is used to describe the quantum of syllabus for various programmes in terms of hours of study. Core, Elective and Non Major courses are a set of compulsory courses required for each programme. The minimum credit requirement for a two-years master’s programme is 90 credit hours.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE COURSE

Candidates seeking admission into Master of English course should posses a Bachelor’s degree in English or an examination accepted as equivalent there to with a minimum pass.

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

Application for admission to the course must be made in prescribed form obtainable at the office of the institution offering the course. The admission will be followed by Interview to enable the respective admission committee to decide about the suitability of the candidate. The selection candidates will be made based on the marks obtained from the qualifying examinations (100%) conducted by the concerned college. The decision of the committee shall be final in all cases of admission.

ELIGIBITLITY FOR THE DEGREE

No candidates shall be eligible for the degree unless he/she has completed the prescribed course of study in an institution and has passed the prescribed examination.

No candidates shall be admitted to the examination unless he/she has attended not less than 75% of the total lecture of each paper, a certificate from the head of the institution where he./she studied certifying that his/her progress and conduct have been satisfactory.

M.PHIL ENGLISH

Eligibility

  • A Candidate who has qualified for the Master’s Degree in English Discipline of this University or of any other University recognized by the University as equivalent (including old Regulations of any University) subject to such conditions as may be prescribed thereof shall be eligible to register for the degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in English and undergo the prescribed courses of study.
  • A candidate who has qualified for master’s degree (through regular study / Distance Education mode) with not less that 55% of marks in English of this University or any other University recognized by Madurai Kamaraj University, shall be eligible to register for M.Phil.SC/ ST candidates are exempted by 5% from the prescribed minimum marks.

Duration

The duration of the M.Phil course shall be of one year consisting of two semesters.Part –II (Second Semester)

Dissertation

To submit the dissertation the mandatory requirement is a pass in all the Papers of I semester. Every scholar is expected to give two seminars one concerning the Review of Literature within the two months from the beginning of the Second Semester and the other on the organisation of the thesis just before the submission of the final draft of the dissertation.

Scholars shall submit the dissertation to the Controller of Examinations before 31st May. If a scholar is not able to submit their dissertation within the period stated above, he shall be given an extension time of 3 months in the first instance and another 3 months in the second instance with penalty fees. If a scholar does not submit their dissertation even after the two extensions, their registration shall be treated as cancelled and they have to re-register for the course subject to the discretion of the Principal. However, the scholar need not write once again the theory papers if they have already passed these papers. For the valuation of dissertation the mandatory requirement is a pass in all the theory papers in the I semester. One external examiner and the Research Adviser shall value the Dissertation. The external examiner should be selected only from outside the college and shall be from any college affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University.

Viva voce

The external examiner who values the Dissertation and the Research Adviser shall conduct Viva voce for the candidate for a maximum of 50 marks. A Candidate shall be declared to have passed Part-II of the examination if they secure not less than 50% of the marks prescribed for Dissertation and 50% of the marks in the aggregate of the marks secured in the viva voce provided they have cleared all the theory papers in the I Semester. A scholar can undertake project in the second semester whether or not they have passed the I semester.

M.COM

Objectives

The syllabus for PG Commerce has been designed in such a way that the students, when they go out will be employable in Banks and Financial Institutions, software industries are capable of becoming entrepreneurs. The focus is also on making them eligible for higher studies in Master of Philosophy and Doctorate.

Eligibility

Admission for M.Com Program is open to the candidates having Bachelor Degree in Commerce, Management, Corporate Secretarial ship and other related program of any recognized university.

Duration of the Course

The duration of the course shall be two academic year comprising four semesters with two semesters in each academic year.

M.PHIL COMMERCE

Objectives

The syllabus for M.Phil under semester system been so designed that the students can have a clear idea on recent research development in various fields of Mathematics

Eligibility for Admission

Candidates who has qualified for the Master’s Degree in any faculty of Madurai Kamaraj University or of any other University recognized by the syndicate of Madurai Kamaraj University as equivalent there to Commerce shall be eligible to register for the Degree of Master of Philosophy in Commerce .

Duration of the course

The duration of the course shall be of two semesters for the full time programme.

REGULATIONS AND SYLLABUS FOR MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK – (M.S.W)
CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM

The selection candidates will be made based on the marks obtained from the qualifying examinations (100%) and the marks scored in the entrance test (50%) to be conducted by the concerned college. The decision of the committee shall be final in all cases of admission.

ELIGIBITLITY FOR THE DEGREE

Candidates for the degree shall, besides undergoing the prescribed course of study, do field practicum (Consisting of observation visits, concurrent field work, research project work, etc, under the guidance of staff members and to the satisfaction of the department or the institute.

No candidates shall be eligible for the degree unless he/she has completed the prescribed course of study in an institution and has passed the prescribed examination.

No candidates shall be admitted to the examination unless he/she has attended not less than 75% of the total lecture of each paper, field work visit and produce a certificate from the head of the institution where he./she studied certifying that his/her progress and conduct have been satisfactory. The head of the department shall furnish such certificate the institution before issuing the hall tickets.
